Endnotes on old Kindles

I recently designed a complex ebook with about 800 endnotes going from doc to HTML to ePub to mobi with calibre. The 'mobi' file contains both mobi and azw3 versions.

The endnotes work as expected on an upgraded Kindle Keyboard and a Kindle Touch. I do not have a generation 1 or 2 Kindle to test whether the endnotes will work on older ebook readers.

Can anyone tell me whether generation 1 and 2 Kindle readers can handle endnotes?
