Moving the Calibre library from one drive to another

I was wondering if someone could explain to me why my Calibre library has grown about 42.5 % in size simply because I moved my library from one drive to another?

To be more specific after upgrading Calibre to 2.15, I decided to move my library to a larger drive as I was running out of space on the current drive. I used Calibre to do the move and ended up with a Calibre directory some 119 Gbytes in size containing over 41,000 files and 21,000 folders. However I started with a Calibre directory on my old drive of only 83.5 GB in size containing only 29,000 files and 15,000 folders! Where did I get an extra 35 GB and 12,000 files from? I presume if I did a simple copy and paste I would end up with exactly what I started with ie. a 83.5 GB library.

Note: The number of books in my library as noted by Calibre has remained unchanged after the move.
