I saw a YouTube clip of how to amplify your smartphone speakers. They tested alot of methods and came to conclusion placing your smartphone in a ceramic bowl did the trick. Not sure how to apply that to Echo but it might give you some ideas.

My Amazon Fire Phone speakers are crap. So are my Kindle Fire 6. My Kindle Fire 7 HD 2013 has decent speakers and I listen rock like Bon Jovi, Poison and other 80s rock bands. Yes showing my age here! They sounds pretty good on my HD7. So I agree Amazon should take quality of sound into effect on a $199 speaker.
