You need/want one, Blossom.
I'm very happy with my Echo! It does have some minor quirks, but I expect those will be resolved over time. I have a fabulous bluetooth speaker that I use for music in the living room, so my Echo is in the kitchen/dining area right now.
I use it mainly for listening to music. It can access Prime, TuneIn, and iHeart via voice request (for some stations) or the Echo app. I connect my tablet and Echo using bluetooth to listen to other music.
The voice controls are
very handy! I can make requests from the living room by using the included remote when I don't want to raise my voice and still hear Alexa's response. I've used it to perform currency conversions, do simple math calculations, make a list, get movie trivia answers, listen to news briefs, as a timer, and to obtain temperature/weather forecasts for the current day and future dates. If Alexa doesn't know the answer, a Bing search link is usually sent to the Echo app.
