#2 The GoodRead app is not only absolutely useless in its current state but glitchy.

#3 The interface is not intuitive. I find myself going in circles at times, trying to find certain things.

Other than a pretty screen it hasn't shown me that it has a lot to offer.

I am really disappointed.
This is how it is on All Android apps past Kit Kat. The Menu bar is on the side. You have to get use to if you use the later version of Android.

Make sure you use the Real Goodreads app not the Goodreads for Kindle app. They are two different apps an the regular one works fine. you can always sideload the Google version if want the latest features.

I don't know how more simpler a UI can get on a tablet but you have to get use to the side menus of the newer Android then it will get easier for you. This is really not a Kindle Fire thing but KitKat and above design.

The Kindle Fire 6 is made for a media tablet. If you don't use it for Reading, Music, Audiobooks, Videos or light gaming then yes it wont be what you want. I think it is the perfect tablet made for reading.
