Firstly, unless you are using an older firmware, forget about the series sort. The "Date added" sort for the collection is broken in the firmware. Because of that, using this function doesn't do anything useful.

But, the series and number the function uses is whatever is in the device database. If you look at a book and it has a series name and number, that is what is used. From memory, books without a number are sorted first.
