I have backups all over the place, including on 2 cloud providers, on a virtual server in a data center, and on a RAID NAS in my apartment.

I have restored failed drives from backup and dropbox did the right thing, updating the old install with new data from the cloud. However, if when restoring a system you are concerned about having the old data become current, simply restore with the network disconnected, uninstall dropbox and delete its folder, then reconnect and reinstall it.
