The only book I had that took over an hour to convert was a mobi to epub conversion. The final result has a chapter file for every sentence in the original mobi. The conversion took over 8 hours (not sure how long since I abandoned it at the 2 hour mark with memory used by Calibre hanging around the 5GB mark) but the next morning, the conversion had completed and I took the timestamp on the output epub as being close to the time of completion.

Sigil had issues with opening a epub with 4700 chapter files -- it took about 20 minutes to open -- but did finally open the epub and then worked happily for merging the sentence files into chapter files.

All this on a Win7 x64 system with 24GB of memory and i7 processor.
