wanted: info on goodreads

There is an icon for accessing Goodreads on my fire hdx; access needed registration.

Haven't heard of "goodreads" prior to getting the fire except that I had a vague notion of goodreads as a consumer book recommendations or something like that. Now, after Googling, I find that Goodreads is more like a "lending" library but haven't seen any costs associated with joining. I did see that Goodreads was acquired by Amazon in 2013.

So, is there any membership fees? Can the email reg have a different email id than the one used for Amazon? And, when there is an item to select to read, is that item really available in an ebook format?

Reason for my curiosity is that I did a web search with "Poul Anderson Hoka" & Goodreads came up in the list. The reason for more info is that Goodreads has several "Hoka" books available(?) to read; and I have not found any place that sells them in an ebook format. Baen Books used to have it in one of their free volumes for download but Hoka is no longer available!(?). With this knowledge, did Goodreads encode an ebook copy of the books or was it really a "wish list"?
