I do that with my caseless devices, my Kobo Mini and 2 of my tablets. Yes the tablets are flush-screen, but they are in silicone jackets that give a bit of edge to the front. The Poetic GraphGrip, especially creates a lip.

The larger the device, the less I want a case on it. When I had a Kobo HD, I often used it without the case, then put it back in the case when I was done reading. With that nice back, holding it caseless was much more comfortable. I have a case or two for my Nexus 7, but they are put away. The GraphGrip is better, for me. A black hair band, stretched diagonally across the back, makes a nice place to slip in a finger or two for one handed use.
