I'm rooted, so the Google play store works on mine. I already bought the Google play version so I don't want to have to buy again from Amazon.
If you're interested, you don't need to be rooted to install Google apps, and others have reported that this allows you to side load paid apps without errors. This is installing everything as regular apps, not system apps, so it shouldn't be risky to do.
