I have been a friends with him and his wife for several years now. They were very active in the community and we worked on more than a few things together. My friend was a retired Naval Aviator, and the type of individual that embodied walk softly and carry a big stick .
We live in a small town and for whatever reason, long before I got involved, tempers were high and accusations would be lobbed around faster than spells at Hogwarts. My friend would just give a small knowing smile to those of us concerned with a slight nod of his head, and we all knew that everything would be ok. I envy those who served under him as his demeanor and wise words inspired confidence. The same way that I would be ready to boil over only to have him not only talk me down, but give me legitimate information to deal with.
Unfortunately this wonderful man was only 60. He was in very good health. He died of natural causes and the only thing that could have taken him faster would have been a bullet.
I salute you my fallen friend. You were a wise and Noble man
