Okay… Finally! Success!
Uninstalling spider Oak is NOT ENOUGH using the Windows UnInstaller.
Spider Oak was, and has been uninstalled for a number of days.
If you look back up in the prior postings, you'll see when I said "Spideroak" was uninstalled. And it WAS uninstalled at that time using the standard Windows UnInstaller.
It is/was necessary for me to use regedit.
I opened regedit this morning, and did a search for "Spideroak." [Starting at the beginning of the registry, and working my way sequentially through to the end.]
I am sorry, but I neglected to count the actual number of instances. But … Every time I found an instance of "Spideroak" , I used the tab key to move back to the left-hand column which shows the overall directory or the name of the item that contains the search bit. [I don't know what it's actually called]. I then deleted the entire – overall directory. I don't know the actual name. There were a total of maybe somewhere between seven and ten further instances of "Spideroak" in the registry. I was not paying attention to the number of times that I deleted the left-hand columns.
After deleting all of them, just for the heck of it I tried to run the 64-bit version of Calibre and save to disk.
The sixty-four bit version of Calibre WORKED!
I can save to disk. And I can add new books.
So… Uninstalling spider Oak using – start – control panel – programs and features – is not enough. There must've been some element left over in the registry from the "Spideroak" install – after it's removal using Windows uninstall – that was causing the problem.
I'm sorry, but I did not pay close attention to how many actual instances of "Spideroak" were found, for which I deleted the parent – for lack of a better word directory.
First… Let me thank each and every one of you who helped me. Thank you for taking the time and expending the effort.
BR, very special thanks for your time and effort!
As near as I can tell, the 64-bit version is working perfectly.
Again many, many thanks,
jamesgl
PS I rebooted Windows just to be sure, and the 64-bit version of Calibre is still running perfectly.
