Good morning again,

Okay. I am setting the environmental variable by going to the Computer icon on my desktop. I right clicked on it, and went to properties. Then I clicked on the advanced system settings which has a shield to the left of it. That opens up system properties. The middle tab is called advanced. At the bottom right of that particular page there is a button labeled environment variables.

Clicking on that button opens two Windows, user variables for me on the top. And on the bottom system variables. Both the environmental variables that I set were/and still are set in the system variable window, which is the bottom window of the advanced tab.

CALIBRE_NO_NATIVE_FILEDIALOGS = 1

CALIBRE_TEMP_DIR = 1

I have copied and pasted the variables above from the actual edit Windows,, and then added the = and the 1 afterwards to show its value.

Okay next… Good morning kovidgoyal.

I did have spideroak installed, but I removed the program using the standard Windows uninstall from the control panel. That is "programs and features."
Just to be clear, after the removal of SpiderOak, the 64-bit Calibre behavior remains unchanged. The program still freezes with add books or save a book to disk.

PS. I'm uncertain what you mean about fonts. If you will give me specific directions about how to pick and choose or how to tell which fonts you are either looking for, or fonts that need to be temporarily deleted from my system, I'll be glad to try and comply.
