USB cable was not connected, storage had been unmounted.
I rebooted once to be sure that the FS would be clean.
Then I did something that made koreader crash, kindle rebooted, and then all kinds of stuff was gone.
I bought the device a few weeks ago.
Unfortunately I can't get koreader to crash anymore ...
Anyway, thanks for the help, if it happens again, I'll try to keep better track of the circumstances and will hopefully be able to reproduce the problem.
