Under Library in ES File Explorer there is APP option where you can back up locally to a apk or you can send a apk. Just have ES File Explorer open on both devices to use the send command you can do this for files and folders too.
Note: You can't backup paid Google Play apps on Android 4 and up but you can Amazon Paid apps.

Thanks for the info. Wasn't able to find the app backup on ES FS earlier; got it to work on a couple of items.
Will need to keep a copy of apk extracter as I wasn't able to backup the paid "System Panel" app on Nexus 7; the apk extracter was able to do it. Don't think "SystemPanel" is a Google Play app even tho it was purchased on the Google Play Store. May not need it as ES Task Manager look like being able to do the same things.
