Under Library in ES File Explorer there is APP option where you can back up locally to a apk or you can send a apk. Just have ES File Explorer open on both devices to use the send command you can do this for files and folders too.
Note: You can't backup paid Google Play apps on Android 4 and up but you can Amazon Paid apps.

I'm an idiot and would appreciate any help or elucidation, because I'm screwing something up. I've got the Mantano and Cool Reader apps from the Amazon store on my Nexus 7 and tried this, but the Nexus didn't seem to see the Fire 6. I had File Explorer open on both devices. What have I missed? It could be something ridiculously obvious, because as I said, I'm an idiot.
Unless I can read epubs on the Fire, it won't be the do-all device I'd hoped it would be. My library is overwhelmingly epub and while I could convert, that seems like a lot of trouble and the results won't be as good as being able to use Mantano or Cool Reader.
