You should see what they charge libraries for journal access nowadays. And Elsevier gets nearly all the labor free! The papers submitted are written and researched by researchers (mostly at universities), then other researchers peer review papers for free, and most journals charge researchers to publish their papers as well. (And keep in mind most of the money they earn comes from the public, through salaries to researchers at public universities, and those same universities having to pay through the nose to get library access to the journals too.)

So basically, the app's just another in a long line of greedy scams from Elsevier so the price is no surprise. I'm actually surprised it's under $100.
