Why don't you try one, you never know you might like it. Josh Lanyon is an author I would highly recommend for a newbie to the genre, he writes mystery detective type stories. Stranger on the Shore is a standalone recent story that I really enjoyed.
Interesting. I can see that. I'd be fearful to read one though! Lol.
