There's a couple of stories and a fix-up novel by the late Bob Shaw on that subject. I don't know if they're the ones you mean, but I liked the book a lot. I think the novel is Other Days, Other Eyes and the main story is Light of Other Days.

I guess I'm mainly a windows person, but I think they're all really mirrors in the end. It's just that some of them are more obviously mirrors than others.
