You can use Calibre to remove your books from the device and keep them nice and safe on your computer while you try to save your device.

Your device should reset easier if it's not trying to reload hundreds of books.

See if Calibre will recognize your device and then let's go on from there. Remove your books, do a hard reset and see what happens.

The latest Sony software is not supported on XP, which is why I would like it if you had access to a more up-to-date operating system.
