The ballads chosen for inclusion in Warrior Lore were selected as reflecting the traditions of Nordic legends and myths. Only one ballad survives that tells a story of the Norse gods. That is The Hammer Hunt, and is included here. Other ballads tell stories of early Scandinavian royalty, and others of legendary north-European heroes:
The poem Volundarkvida from the Poetic Edda ends with the death of King Nidud's sons, and the exit of Wayland Smith into the air, leaving behind Nidud's daughter, Bodil, in a pregnant state. What next?
