I have to wonder what this sort of strategy gains the MPAA members in the long run. Obviously their paying out the money to try and enhance their negotiating position with Google and maybe get some friendly laws passed where they can, but it seems like a much better bet would be investing in new products and services that leverage what the Internet can provide.

As for the source, I like Techdirt, but some of their writers are prone to some pretty severe histrionics at times.
