Darn, that was it! I must have gone ten times into the Main Toolbar preferences, and there was no Find Duplicates icon. It's just that after reading your suggestion, it dawned on me that it might be located in the "Second Toolbar" menu; and of course it was. So after three days of futzing around, I finally got my Find Duplicates back.
