The T3 I got from Factory Direct has just the back plate. I considered that a fantastic bonus. Don't like the original T3 built in cover as it protects nothing, and don't have to worry about it breaking or wearing down.
The T3 itself is great; as its smaller, has no full page refresh and has a whiter background and higher res than my T2. This makes for good contrast. But when I had to decide whether to give the T2 or T3 away as a gift, I kept the old T2. Why, because that one is hacked. With Cool Reader and the additional fonts I installed, I could get better fonts than Amasis, and I could get the font much darker, with better line spacing. All that made for a superior reading experience for my tired old eyes.
BTW, "Bargain hunters" who wait for prices to go down on these things will likely find themselves missing out completely; as stocks are limited all around, getting more so and prices are bouncing all over the place. Example: I got my T3 when it was $49.99. But then it went to $69.99, then it went to $59.99, and now its sold out. So this is the guy who waits...
