True, KF8 and mobi7 make use of different rendering engines with slight idiosyncrasies.
Wait -- are you saying two KF8 copies of the same book displayed differently on the Kindle app, depending on if there was DRM?

It will also be stripped automatically when setting the right options in calibre's conversion dialog. In any event, that seems to be an argument for using AZW3, which doesn't arbitrarily remove thing it, um, doesn't support. It is a purely MOBI difference.
