The reason for removing this part of the rcS was that otherwise we would be presented with the "Critical error message" every third time we reboot the reader without running nickel.
With KSM, instead of inserting a paper clip three times in a row after booting, one would insert a sd card with autorun.sh containing the factory reset code once. This is the idea, but I did not actually try it myself.
