Doing so would require placing a wave guide above the screen and extending the wave guide for the touch sensors. It's not impossible, but it is non-trivial.

Another option would be to create a light that attaches to the bezel but remains close to the bezel, with lenses that spread the light across the screen. Doable, but it would result in non-uniform illumination.

The third option is that an electrically compatible screen (or at least modifiable to be so) with the wave guide becomes available.
