Hearn is good. Look up his New Orleans stuff. "Chita: A memory of Last Island" is a good place to start as it is a novella and under 90 pages. It is based on a real event, though. I have been meaning to read his Japanese stuff for awhile.
You might try breaking the reader's block by re-reading an old favorite? I've done that sometimes.
I decided to read Rosehead by Ksenia Anske. I made a bit of headway but the only reading time I've found is right before bead and I've been quite tired, so I'm only 15% through.
