I agree with the idea that there is no need to rush reading. Books can't just get up and walk off on their own legs after all. While books borrowed from the library do have a due date it's not like those who borrow multiple books at once are usually slow readers. You can read quickly and yet not be a speed reader. I read the 7th Harry Potter book within 24 hrs, not because I speed read, but because I couldn't put the book down for very long (and I am disabled so I didn't have to worry about getting up on time for work in the morning). When I was in college I read "The Stand" (the extended version) in less than a week. Some people are naturally fast readers. Trying to read faster than you can comprehend won't gain you much as you miss out on details that add to the story.
