I'm not sure if you're only looking for epic fantasy, but relatively new author and Campbell nominee Max Gladstone has a very good fantasy series "The Craft Sequence", Three Parts Dead, Two Serpents Rise, and Full Fathom Five, which are sort of urban fantasy deist murder mysteries, (at least the first two are) set in a world with live and dead gods, loosely based on gods from various Earth cultures. The gods' powers are akin to high finance and a god can be killed with sneaky bad contracts and can be brought back to some form of afterlife through other financial/spiritual contracts. Human crafts(wo)men are able to tap into the gods' powers and maybe even resurrect or replace a dead one. That's right, accountancy is next to godliness, or something like that. Seriously, though, I thought the first two were very good, haven't gotten around to reading the third one.
