For kids I think that battery life, or lack of it, is likely to be a bigger concern.

I absolutely LOVE reading on it.

All non-issues for my case.

I have the device picked out and I know it will run the apps I want. As long as it is smaller and lighter than my (non-Retina) iPad and the text on it looks good, it will suit my needs.
My kids already have 7" Kindle Fire HDs and the two oldest have e-ink Kindles as well. (Said my youngest last week, "When do I get *my* Kindle that *only* does books?")
They all have books sideloaded onto their tablets, which I have caught them reading now and then (not often).
Anyway, this tablet is for me. I thought it would be a nice bonus justification to be able to share it with the kids and let them read books that I bought for them. I have been wanting one, but reluctant to get one when I have so many reading devices already. However, not being able to download the NOOK app to the Fires kind of got me to consider it more seriously, especially with this being the season of Good Electronic Deals.
