I bet money on Amazon is clearancing them out. Too many returns due to blue light bleed.

Reportedly they figured out the problem and fixed it in later production runs. But that does not mean the ones they are selling at this otherwise exceptional price don't have this issue. These are 'new' but for all we know they stopped making the 4g models before the fix. So I would approach this deal with caution, and be prepared to return it if one is unhappy with the display.
I went through this a couple of months ago, they had a nifty sale on refurbs. But it had a very noticeable (to me) blue halo and I returned it immediately. Amazon never publicly acknowledged it as the defect it clearly is. Moreover, they continue to ship them rather than scrap them (as I discovered). Of course if all you are doing is watching videos and playing games with it, there is not really any issue.
However, the lack of a rear facing camera alone would be a deal breaker for me. It does not have to be a great camera, just one that is good enough to do captures of print, pages of books, etc (as the new HD's have).
