There is a way -- with calibre. It just won't be accepted at Amazon.
Which makes sense, since it wouldn't work on older devices, including the non-upgraded Kindle Keyboards -- and Amazon wants to make sure the book can be read on ANY of their devices.
It sounds like you are concerned about the cost for delivering the larger filesize. I don't claim to know anything about it, but I'd assume Amazon only charged delivery for the stripped version that they actually send, not the size of the dual-MOBI their tools create.
