I just rechecked with my macxpert, seems I was misinformed. Its not Finder she uses between her 'droids and macs - its Android File Transfer for OS/X - she says it looks like Finder, although she doesn't normally use Finder

Apparently Mac power users tend to prefer
Path Finder.
Can you say you prefer to use Windows' builtin Windows Explorer? Or do you prefer Explorer++ or similar alternatives?
On Windows AND Mac, the companies in charge tend to lag behind in features that third-party programs nailed down long ago.
Linux of course is just a collection of third-party programs.
