No way that with all the resources IOI apparently had that they would figure out the first clue. The same goes for the last one. The gunters from IOI were geeks themselves and none played the riff? Very unlikely. Another point, why did they wait so long to wanting to abduct Art3mis and Shaito? They must have known their real address for ages.


A lot of the references were fun though, although a lot was from the 70's instead of the 80's.

My understanding of IoI was:
1. The actual gamers were limited in what they were allowed to do; they had to wait for instructions from the higher-ups.
2. Like most corporations - The higher-ups had more dollars than sense and/or passion and therefore wouldn't necessarily have known exactly where to look or how to play everything as instinctively.


As to your underwhelming take on the novel - I call "Bah Humbug!"
