I'll try to make it more clear, I Did do the Scan but there was no Errors so but yes it's a factory reset back to the start, where it delete's everything off from the device.
As for seeing the file's through windows I can only see that one file told me to check the premission's on, although I can see all the books in the Kobo reader and read them just fine, it just will not connect once there is a book on the device to calibre although all the books stay on the device
when I do the factory reset, I can see through Calibre and I can add book's to the device and remove those book's it is only a one time thing however before I have to factory reset to be able to do it again, thats why it sounded like software to me. I can never see the book's through the pc in Mycomputer but no matter if i shut the device off or not they will remain on the device until I do a factory reset

Ok, you do a factory reset, connect to the PC and everything is OK. Disconnect, and the books are there. Reconnect and nothing is shown. Correct?
Unfortunately, this could be the a number of things. But, the one thing it is not is calibre. Calibre relies on the OS and the device talking to each other properly. That isn't happening. The only way you can blame calibre is that when it is getting the book list from the device, it is doing a lot of work over the USB connection. That might break it, but, if it does, it was teetering on the edge anyway.
So, we need some troubleshooting. We need to eliminate possibilities until we can fix it:
- Do you have another PC to try? Or cable or USB port? Each of these could be the problem, so we need to check.
- Have your rebooted the PC?
- Get
USBDeview. When you run it, it displays all past and current USB devices. Find the references to Kobo, select them and delete them. Then rebook the PC and try again.
- What happens if you manually copy a book to the device? Does the device see it? Can you see it on the device at the next connection? Can you copy another book or delete that one?
- Have you installed the Kobo desktop application? What happens when it tries to see the device?
- After the factory reset, how do you setup the device? Over WiFi or by connecting to the PC and the Kobo application?
Hopefully something in that lot will help. If it all fails, then it probably is a faulty device and you should return it.
