How to update the Kobo FW via Wifi by KSM (if nickel does not do it for you)

(You can achieve this of course also by changing the affiliate.)

Apply KBStartMenu_06_bugfix_01.zip (conf. previous post)

For devices the FW is meant for (Glo, Aura, Aura HD, Aura H2O)
  • enable wifi
  • select "tools > checkbattery.sh" to see whether the battery is sufficently charged
  • select "tools > Kobo FW update.msh > download FW.sh" (after a while the download will start; during the download you will see the update animation)
  • select "unzip FW to kobo.msh > mark4 3.12.0.zip > extract" (you will see the update animation while the content is being extracted)
  • select "handle update > install partial update" (while the device is updating, you will see the update animation)

For devices the FW is not meant for
  • enable wifi
  • select "tools > checkbattery.sh" to see whether the battery is sufficently charged
  • select "tools > Kobo FW update.msh > extra > download recent FW mark4.sh" (after a while the download will start, during the download you will see the update animation)
  • select "tools > Kobo FW update.msh > unzip FW to kobo.msh > mark4 3.12.0.zip > extract only root tgz" (you will see the update animation while the content is being extracted))
  • select "handle update > install partial update" (while the device is updating, you will see the update animation)

I tested this on Touch (C-model) and Glo.

As always, do this on your own risk!
