I'd probably directly use Linux then.

If I am "forced" to be in Windows, I assume I've got to do something with it... If I used a vm I'd be using it to do something in another machine (the host)... It would be too complicated probably. We would need something like wine to run unix command directly on the windows host... oh wait. That's cygwin.
