BetterRed - I moved the files with Windows copy and then set up a new Calibre database at the new location using "Use exisiting library at the new location". The list for creating a new DB doesn't seem toi include a copy function and I don't like moving databases in case there is a problem part way through. So it wasn't Calibre's fault, so far as I can see.
Create New Library has the option to borrow the structure of the existing one.

(all done with Calibre)
This is step 1 for sub-setting or creating a 'working-on-it' Library
Step 2 is populating the new Lib. a) Select books in existing:right click:copy-to-Library; <newLibrary> b)The traditional way: 'Add Books'
