I live in a pretty quiet, low-traffic area which after about 20 minutes of walking starts to hook up to the busier city centre.
So for about the first 15-20 mins and if the weather's nice, I often do read, provided I'm basically one of the only people on the sidewalk and there's like, no cars obviously driving way too fast and recklessly. Once I start to have more pedestrian company and there's more than a handful of motor vehicles occasionally going by, the e-reader gets put away and I start paying more attention to my surroundings.
It also rains a lot around here, so that does affect my choice of reading device, and my old buttons-only K2 is far easier to manage in a plastic baggie while I'm waiting for the bus than my Sony, which requires more touchiness, navigation-wise.
