I used chat to ask Amazon CS what was wrong and had a very nice conversation advising that it "is an issue going on for other customers as well our engineers are working to get it addressed. However I don't have an estimated resolution date yet." So, I waited patiently all weekend and called CS today as it is still not working - and they still do not have a estimated time/day for resolution of this issue. Not sure how many customers are effected, but am really rather annoyed about this! Let me know what you all hear.
Cheers!

PS I use high speed broadband and have no access to this - at all. Caches and history cleared, but it's a glitch with Amazon apparently.
Well.... Thank you for that. Since I use dialup as my main connection, I get used to wonky things happening and never thought about checking with CS.

It *does* seem to be working for me with Chrome (I've finally given up with Firefox - way to many problems these days) on a broadband connection today.
