Just to add to this ...

I think there were two different DX models and definitely two different "Kindle Basic" (Kindle 4, non-touch) models. One (2011 model) was silver (graphite) and one (2012 model) was black. The black Kindle 4 had slightly sharper fonts and was a bit faster.
