Currently I'm using a T1 and it has no front light. But I do have the light cover for it and yes, I do use the light sometimes. When comparing the price of the Kindle Touch Basic to the Kobo Glo (I'd go for the Kobo Aura that's currently on sale for $99 CAD with a free sleepcover), factor in the cost of a light cover for the Kindle Touch Basic.

Also note, that it's quite possible that the Kindle Touch Basic cannot be jailbroken.
