Kindle Touch Basic

I stopped in Staples earlier today and had a look at the new Kindle Touch Basic.

On sale it's $49.99 and it's a good deal if you want a Kindle and don't mind not having the higher resolution and the front light. None of the cases that Staples has has a light. But some of them do have space to use the M-Edge light that you can get fairly cheap on eBay.

The touch screen worked well and it's not heavy at all. There was a Paperwite on demo next to the Basic and with the light of the PW all the way at the lowest, the contrast of the Basic seem a little better due to the background of the Basic being slightly lighter. The black was just fine on the Basic.

I was looking at the font choices and I noticed something rather odd. The two serif fonts (not Cecelia or the condensed one) Palitino and one other (I forget the name) were rather weak in that they did not have all that much weight to them. They seem like odd choices to include since they are noticeably lighter then the other included fonts. The sans-serif fonts (Helvetica and Futura) had more weight to them and looked OK. But being sans-serif, not all that good as the main reading font.
