The Kobo registration is separate from the ADE registration. OTOH, if you want to read ADOBE DRMed ebooks, you will need the ADE registration. If you only use DRM free ebooks, you don't need to use up an ADE registration. If you do register with Adobe, save the activation.xml file from the .adobe-digital-editions directory. That way, if you do a reset, you can just copy that file back and save having to bother Adobe for more registrations.
