IMHO she was one of the finest mystery writers of this century - who could produce complete novels (with depth of character, character development, realistic situations, etc.) - rather than 'who-done-its'. She could also write about unspeakable brutal acts - setting up a brilliant contrast with her refined, sensitive detective, Adam Dalgleish.

I had begun re-reading the Dalgleish series this month - and shall sorely mourn the absence of any new installments.
