Tell your friend to try embedding the following font in any of his KF8 eBooks and see how he gets on at the largest size. Calibre can help with this as long as the source is DRM free.

If it does not work, a Kindle is not for him. I would suggest a Kobo Aura H2O or a large screen tablet.
