I find that it works well, but if it doesn't work for you, there's no disaster - you can simply turn it off (there's a "Set light level automatically" check box above the brightness setting slider).

My use is a little different to yours, so I may not come to the same decision. The only way to really find out is to try them both, though from what I have read so far it sounds like I would be very happy with either (or both).
