Indeed, that is why I suggested it as a
possibility.
And then questioned the blanket statement "linux is a bad idea".
I have no problem with the idea that it might not be for everyone, e.g. specialized software.
I do have a problem with people dismissing the mere idea because of pure bile.
Note: In the same post where I suggested linux, I also suggested running from source
on Windows to overcome selected incompatibilities.
NOTE2: Most home users will find that linux runs most or all of their applications as well, so long as they are willing to trade IE for Chrome/FF cf. Chromebooks.

Add libreoffice rhythmbox and calibre from full OSes, and you've got most peoples' use-cases nailed.
